Here are some examples of questions we have been asked since starting our company
Q: How easy is it to buy property in Bulgaria?
A: Buying property in Bulgaria can either be very easy or very difficult; the easiest way to purchase property in Bulgaria is to get a good lawyer.
Q: How easy is it to fly to Bulgaria and is it expensive?
A: Flying to Bulgaria is very easy, most airlines fly regularly to all 3 major airports, Sophia, Varna and Burgas, flight prices can vary but if you search around you can get flights very cheap.
Q: How can I make sure that I’m not paying too much for my land?
A: Unfortunately there are no guarantees, once you have found a plot you wish to buy, speak with your lawyer, they will advise you on whether or not the land is worth the price.
Q: Would I need to get a visa to live in Bulgaria?
A: No, now Bulgaria are part of the EU, all you would require to get your Listna Carter, (permanent residency document) would be a company registered to you, proof that you can afford to stay in the country, and a certificate of insurance, your lawyer will advise you on this.
Q: Is the language hard to learn or do they speak English?
A: Bulgarian is a complex language and still uses the Cyrillic alphabet, although younger Bulgarian’s can speak several languages including English, the older Bulgaria’s don’t often speak anything other than Bulgarian. You can sign up to Bulgarian language courses, but the Bulgarians will help you learn.
Q: What is the cost of living in Bulgaria? And how hard is it to convert the money?
A: The cost of living in Bulgaria is a lot less than in the UK, to gain your Listna Carter, you must have 2500 Leva in your bank account, this is what the Bulgarian government think you will need to live on for a year.
Converting the money is very simple, there is roughly 3 Leva to the pound, the exchange rate at the moment is 2.87 but this varies regularly, but if you divide a Bulgarian price by three you will get very close to the English equivalent.
